ACAP – AI Climate Adaptation Platform
Extreme heat above 50°C, dust storms, water scarcity, and rapidly growing cooling demand are placing unprecedented pressure on buildings, infrastructure, and urban systems across the Gulf Countries (GCC). At the same time, governments and developers are investing heavily in national transformation, climate resilience, and large-scale urban development programs.
But climate performance is often addressed late in the workflow process. A developer appoints a design team, an attractive concept is prepared, and the project is then tendered to contractors who must build within decisions that are mostly locked in. This often leads to design compromises, high cooling loads, high operating costs, and weak lifecycle sustainability for the owner or facility operator.
The proposed AI Climate Adaptation Platform (short ACAP), is an AI Expert System for planning, design, and construction. It supports owners, public authorities, developers, planners, architects, and contractors from project inception, including the first design brief, owner’s project requirements, RFP, and tender package.
ACAP provides clear, project-specific recommendations for regional planning, master planning, urban design, landscape design, climate-responsive architecture, water management, shading systems, planting strategies, materials, and construction methods for hot and dry environments – allowing substantial savings in budget for construction and specially operations.
The system consists of a curated multilingual knowledge base using all available literature, engineering standards, climate data, case studies, historical building knowledge, and local construction practices. ACAP turns this knowledge into practical design requirements, scenario comparisons, performance guidance, and implementation recommendations for GCC conditions, helping reduce energy use, operating costs, and avoidable design mistakes.
